So the audit does both halves: it fetches your page the way the search crawler does, then checks whether what it got is worth quoting. The ChatGPT answer and the SEO and authority numbers are shown beside the score, never inside it. ### AI search can reach it 22 robots.txt for OAI-SearchBot, Googlebot, Bingbot, PerplexityBot and Claude-SearchBot on this exact path, a live fetch as OAI-SearchBot, nosnippet and max-snippet rules, noindex and the canonical, and whether the content arrives without JavaScript. ### Answers come first 22 Whether the opening lines answer the question the page should win, whether subheadings match what people ask, and how many of the follow-up questions a buyer asks next the page actually answers. ### Facts worth quoting 20 Figures with units, specific claims an engine can lift verbatim, a line saying who it's for, specs in tables or lists, and outside sources or reviews behind the claims. ### Structured data 22 The right schema type for the page, filled field by field (price, availability, shipping and returns for a product; author and dates for an article), checked against the visible text, plus breadcrumbs and organisation markup. ### Trust signals 14 For a product page: reviews in the HTML and shipping, returns and warranty in the text. For anything else: a named author and a recent date. Both get checked for links into the rest of the site. ### What the bands mean * Invisible (0 to 39): Engines can't reach it or can't use it. * Overlooked (40 to 64): Readable, but rarely the best thing to quote. * Citable (65 to 84): A real candidate for AI answers. * Answer-ready (85 to 100): Built to be quoted. ## AEO Audit FAQ ### What is an AEO audit? Answer engine optimisation is the work of getting a page quoted inside AI answers: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot and Google's AI Overviews. An on-page AEO audit checks one URL for the things that decide that. Can the AI search crawlers reach it, does it answer the question in its opening lines, does it answer the follow-ups a buyer asks next, does it state specific facts an engine can lift, and does its structured data say the same thing as the page. ### How does this audit actually test my page? It fetches your page twice, once as a browser and once as OAI-SearchBot, the crawler behind ChatGPT search, and reads robots.txt for every AI search crawler on that exact path. It parses the HTML and the JSON-LD field by field. A model then names the question your page should win and five follow-ups, and judges whether the page answers each one. Every judgement has to quote your page, and a quote that isn't on the page counts against it. Finally it asks ChatGPT, with web search on, the main question and shows you who it cited. ### Is the score generated by AI? The 100 points come from a fixed rubric in code. Most checks are pure measurement: crawler access, snippet rules, figures with units, schema fields. The answer checks use a model, but its verdicts are checked against your page text before they count, so it can't award points for content that isn't there. The ChatGPT answer and the authority numbers are shown beside the score and never feed it, because they change from day to day and aren't on-page. ### How is AEO different from SEO? SEO gets a page ranked. AEO gets a ranked page quoted. Most AI answers search the web first, so the SEO basics still matter, and this audit shows them in their own checklist. But a page can rank well and still never be quoted, because it opens with marketing copy, hides its specs in JavaScript, or never says who the product is for. Those are the things this score is built on. ### Do you show domain authority and other SEO metrics? Yes, in the SEO and authority panel: the Tranco popularity rank, Open PageRank, and Google PageSpeed's Lighthouse SEO and performance scores, with Core Web Vitals from real Chrome users when the page has enough traffic. There's no Ahrefs Domain Rating, because Ahrefs only sells API access on paid plans. These numbers are off-page, so they sit beside the AEO score rather than inside it. A strong page on a weak domain still gets beaten by a weaker page on a strong one, and it helps to see both. ### Why does it ask ChatGPT a question? Because it's the test that matters. The audit works out the question a stranger would type before they know your brand exists, like "best running shoes for wide feet", and asks ChatGPT with web search on. You see whether your page, another page on your site, or neither was cited, and which sources were. It's one answer from one day, so it's a snapshot, not a ranking. ### How is this different from AEO tools like Profound or AEOsim?
